February 13, 20 Animal Rescue League of Berks County Town Hall Meetings on No-Kill Initiative

The Animal Rescue League of Berks County will hold public Town Hall Meetings to discuss its No-Kill Initiative. Interim Executive Director, Tom Hubric, will outline the plans on how the ARL could become a no-kill shelter and how the public can help. It will be followed by a question and answer session. The meeting will be held at the ARL, 58 Kennel Rd. Birdsboro PA 19508 (Just off Route 724 in Cumru Township) the following dates and times: Tuesday, Feb. 13, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m.; and Tuesday, Feb. 20,
11 a.m. to noon and 1 to 2 p.m. More dates may be added. Register online to attend.

March 10 Meet and Greet the Goldens
The Delaware Valley Golden Retriever Rescue will hold its monthly Meet & Greet the Goldens at its Golden Gateway facility, 60 Vera Cruz road, Reinholds, PA 17569 on Saturday,
March 10,  from 10 a.m. to noon. Come out to meet the golden retrievers, Labrador retrievers, goldendoodles and Labradoodles that are available for adoption. Staff is on hand to answer all questions, and food is available for purchase. There is no admission charge and DVGRR requests no photographs be taken. April 7 and April 8 Shelter Behavior Seminar
The Delaware Valley Golden Retriever Rescue will hold a Shelter Behavior Seminar, presented by Nicole Skeehan and Dana Vachon. Skeehan is a professional dog trainer who operates Philly Unleashed and who is the former director of animal behavior and training for the Pennsylvania SPCA in Philadelphia and former director of  behavior New Leash on Life-USA, a prison dog training program. Vachon works for Philly Unleashed and specializes in coaching people through their dog’s life stages, from early development and adolescent behavior into adulthood. Topics for this two-day seminar include: canine body language, safe handling skills, behavior evaluations, dog meets and play groups, behavior problems seen in shelters, adoption marketing skills, and kennel enrichment among other things. There will be hands-on time with dogs. Cost is $180 per person for registration by March 9, $199 for registration on or after March 10, and $170 for any organization sending three or more people. Registration includes snacks and lunch on both days. Deadline is April 2 and refunds can only be made if cancellation is submitted in writing by March 30. Register online.

May 19 Art for Arf's Sake Auction
The Humane Society of Berks County will its annual Art for Arf's Sake Auction on Saturday, May 19, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Santander Performing Arts Center, 136 N. Sixth St., Reading, PA 19602. This year's theme is Westworld. Individual tickets are $50 per person and patron packages start at $150. Purchase tickets online.
