Oct. 21 Savage 61 Animal Rescue League Rockin' Country Gala
The Animal Rescue League of Berks County will hold a Rockin' Country Gala sponsored by Savage 61 Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram. It will start at 5 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza
Reading hotel, 1741 Papermill Road, Wyomissing, with a cocktail hour followed by a high-energy live auction and panko shrimp cake & filet dinner (or a vegetarian option). Then, dance the night away to the live music of the Stephanie Grace. Tickets are $75 per person. There will be a photo booth and raffle, which includes liquor and beer.

Oct. 28 Berks Nature Tails on the Trails Howl-o'ween Party
Berks Nature will hold a Tails on the Trails Howlo'ween party Saturday, October 28, 2017 from noon to 3 p.m. at The Nature Place at Angelica Park, 575 St. Bernardine St., Reading, PA 19607. There will be a dog costume contest with prizes, treats for people and pets and hikes. The cost $7 per family for Berks Nature members and $10 per family for non-members. Nov. 4 Canine first aid class
Delaware Valley Golden Retriever Rescue will hold a canine first aid class on Saturday, November 4 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at its Golden Golden Gateway facility, 60 Vera Cruz road, Reinholds, PA 17569. The class will be conducted by Pet Emergency Education and is nationally recognized and approved for veterinary staff, animal professionals, and pet owners. The class is open to the public, and the instructor is a certified pet CPR instructor and is also certified by FEMA in Animal Disaster Preparedness. The class awards three continuing education units to veterinary professionals and 4.5 CEUs to Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers enrollees. Pre-registration is required. The cost is $69.95 per person for an electronic-format book or $94.95 for a printed book. Registration also includes a two-year subscription to Pet Emergency Education’s online Animal Resource Center. Registration is handled through Pet Emergency Education’s website . Nov. 11 Meet and Greet the Goldens
The Delaware Valley Golden Retriever Rescue will hold its monthly Meet & Greet the Goldens at its Golden Gateway facility, 60 Vera Cruz road, Reinholds, PA 17569 on Saturday, Nov. 11,  from 10 a.m. to noon. Come out to meet the golden retrievers, Labrador retrievers, goldendoodles and Labradoodles that are available for adoption. Staff is on hand to answer all questions, and food is available for purchase. There is no admission charge and DVGRR requests no photographs be taken. Nov. 12 One by One Cat Rescue Wine and Dine Tour
One by One Cat Rescue, Alsace Township, will hold a Wine and Dine Tour on Sunday, November 12, from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A bus will leave the Alsace Township shelter at 10:30 a.m. and head to Folino Estate Winery for a taste of Tuscany featuring a gourmet lunch of Italian specialties coupled with a sampling of their wines. Next, the bus will travel to Sleepy Cat Urban Winery to sample some of their cat-inspired wines. The bus will then return to the shelter. Price is $90 per person and includes transportation, lunch and wine samplings. If interested, send an email to missy@1by1catrescue.org.

Nov. 19 Dachshund show
The Dachshund Fanciers Association of Berks County will hold its 36th and 37th Independent Specialty Shows at the Berks County 4-H Community Center, 1206 County Welfare Road, Leesport, PA 19533 (Bern Township) on Sunday, November 19, 2017. About 75 dachshunds are expected to vie for championship points, ribbons and trophies and the ultimate Best of Breed at each show. The two shows will run consecutively starting at 8:30 a.m.  The second show is expected to end around 4 p.m. Spectators can attend for free. Both shows will be held indoors, there will be no charge for parking. A homemade lunch will be for sale. A Dachshund Boutique and raffle also will be available.
