Sinking Spring dog event draws hundreds
After years of participating in the Reading Pet Expo, the Berks County Kennel Club wanted to see a similar event focused solely on dogs.
The club hosted its first-ever All About Dogs expo Saturday under the trees at the Liberty Fire Company in Sinking Spring.
Nancy Reiter, club treasurer, said the event attracted between 200 and 300 spectators and exhibitors.
"We weren't quite sure how it would all go, but we were very pleased with it," she said.
The five-hour event featured displays from a wide variety of breed and rescue groups and showcased several demonstrations, from retrieving and agility exercises to carting and service dogs.
There were stations on site for free micro-chipping and vaccinations.
"The biggest thing was to teach the community about the different types of dogs available," Reiter said. "It was good to see each breed up close and personal and talk about them."
Reiter said the club plans to hold the event again next year and open it up to commercial vendors.
"We could not have asked for a better summer day," she said. "It was a very fun-filled and pleasant day."
