MANSFIELD, Mass. - Officials in Mansfield say a family's dog has been euthanized after two biting attacks on young people in recent weeks.

The dog's owner, Michael Bailey, told reporters Monday outside his home he didn't realize how unpredictable the pointer-hound mix had become until the second incident last weekend.

He surrendered the pet, Milo, to animal control officers after it bit his 16-year-old daughter on Saturday night. He said the girl was bitten on her face and ankle but is recovering.

Town officials said a 6-year-old boy needed 400 stitches after Milo bit him as the boy was being babysat by a Bailey daughter on Jan. 3.

Mansfield selectmen had ordered Milo euthanized after the first incident, but allowed the family to keep the pet pending an appeal.
