Another child bitten at S.C. home where infant died
MONCKS CORNER, S.C. - Berkeley County sheriff's deputies are investigating after the Department of Social Services says a child was bitten by a dog in the home of a family that lost an infant in a dog mauling last year.
DSS told the sheriff's department the child suffered a puncture wound to the cheek and beside his nose in a dog attack at the Ladson home of Quintin and Chantel McGrew.
The department was notified last week but officials did not specify when the incident occurred.
Last April, the couple's Labrador retriever mix mauled and killed their baby Aiden as he sat in a child swing. Quentin McGrew was sleeping in a nearby room at the time of the attack. He is awaiting trial on a charge of illegal conduct toward a child.
After the mauling last year, the couple's two other children, a 7-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy, were temporarily removed from their home. The incident report filed with the sheriff's department had the name of the victim redacted, but referred to the victim as a boy.
Contacted by The Post and Courier of Charleston, Chantel McGrew said she did not want to talk about the most recent incident.
"I'm sick and tired of being all over the newspaper and TV, "she said. "I'm done. I'm trying to put all this behind me."
When a reporter said it was the second such incident in her home in less than a year, she replied "At least my kid lived after this dog attack."
