Sept. 7 Doggie Dash
The Animal Rescue League of Berks County's annual Doggie Dash will be held Sunday, Sept. 7, at the Birdsboro VFW, 321 E. Main St, Birdsboro. A portion of the registration fees will benefit the ARL and participants can enter an optional contest to get sponsors -- all of that money will go the ARL. Entry fee is $20 for one person and one dog. There will be awards in four dog weight classes. Pre-registration deadline is Sept. 1 and guarantees you a T-shirt and your dog a bandanna, plus a goodie bag. Register the day of the event from 7:30 to 9 a.m. and get a goodie bag while they last. The Dash starts at 9 a.m. and the walk will start as soon as the last runner crosses the finish line (approximately 9:25 a.m.) The course circles around 2 miles of the rail trail in Birdsboro and Union Township. Sept. 13 Delaware Valley Golden Retriever Rescue Meet & Greet the Goldens
The Delaware Valley Golden Retriever Rescue will hold its monthly Meet & Greet the Goldens event Saturday, Sept. 13, from 10 a.m. to noon at its Golden Gateway, 60 Vera Cruz Road,
Reinholds, PA 17569. Meet the goldens that are available for adoption. Staff is on hand to answer questions and there is food available for purchase. No photographs are permitted. There is no admission charge.

Sept. 13 Buddy Rescue Bingo
The Buddy Rescue Foundation will hold Buddy Rescue Bingo Saturday, Sept. 13, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Blind Hartman's Tavern in Alsace Township (Address: 2910 Pricetown Road, Temple). Tickets are $35 per person and include hot buffet lunch, dessert, non-alcoholic beverages and two Bingo cards. Extra cards are 50 cents each. All tickets will be sold in advance. Sept. 14 Yip & Dip Doggie Swim
The Boyertown Community Pool, 417 S. Madison St., Boyertown, will hold a Yip & Dip Doggie Swim Sunday, Sept. 14, from 1 to 4 p.m. The pool and splash pad will be open to dogs and their owners. There will be contests, prizes, an agility course, off-leash area, nail trims, caricatures by cartoonist Alan MacBain, refreshments and a wiener dog race. Sept. 27 37th Annual Walk for the Animal & Walktoberfest
The Humane Society of Berks County will hold its 37th Annual Walk for the Animal & Walktoberfest Saturday, Sept. 27, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Jim Dietrich Park, 4899 Stoudt’s Ferry Bridge Road Reading, 19605 (Muhlenberg Township). Admission is free, but participants are encouraged to register and obtain sponsors. Those who pre-register by Sept. 6 will be guaranteed a commemorative T-Shirt. Registration is $20 for adults and $10 for kids age 17 or younger. VIP passes are available for $100 per pair and entitle the couple to a special family-friendly VIP buffet and beer garden.

Sept. 27 Photo exhibit Taking Refuge -- A Day at Morris, The Nation's First Animal Shelter
Works on Paper, a Philadelphia art gallery (1611 Walnut St.), will host the one-night exhibition Taking Refuge -- A Day at Morris, The Nation's First Animal Shelter Saturday, September 27, from 6 to 10 p.m. Admission is free. It features the photographs of Darren Modricker, owner of Willow Street Pictures in Spring Township. Modricker donated his services to photograph the workings of Morris Animal Refuge, 1242 Lombard St., Philadelphia, and adoption success stories. Exhibited works will be for sale and select pieces will be featured in a silent auction. A coffee table book of the photographs also will be for sale. All proceeds from the event will go towards the shelter's programs, including the LifeSaver Fund and Foster program. After the exhibit, the book will be available for $20 at Morris Animal Refuge.

Oct. 4 Buddy Rescue Fall Fest
The Buddy Rescue Foundation will hold Buddy Rescue Fall Fest Saturday, October 4, from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Oley Fairgrounds, 27 Jefferson St., in Oley Township. This is a family- and animal rescue-oriented event open to the public and leashed pets. Halloween is the theme, so bring yourself, your kids and furry friends in costume. There will be food, local vendors, a photo booth, animal rescue groups, raffles, music and entertainment,  and prizes for best costumes and activities for your dogs and kids. Bring a trick-or-treat bags.
